In this video, Dr. John Sirak, of the Ohio State University Medical Center (Columbus, OH), talks about the 5-box total thoracoscopic maze procedure, a minimally-invasive surgical procedure for afib that is achieving good results, even among those with persistent or longstanding persistent atrial fibrillation. This video is a companion to our previous article, New Mini Maze Procedure Shows Promise for Treating Persistent Atrial Fibrillation, at www.stopafib.org Dr. Sirak is a cardiothoracic surgeon at The Ohio State University Medical Center, specializing in cardiac surgery as well as general thoracic surgery. He is the principal investigator for a study of minimally invasive surgical therapy of AF and co-investigator in a single center randomized controlled trial of epicardial vs. percutaneous atrial fibrillation therapy.
